Ironically - Sphinn Search Sucks...Discuss
Generally speaking, I'm a naturally positive person, but I do have my moments. This is one of them. I'm beside myself with Sphinn's search feature. I don't know if it's a hardware, software or connection problem. I suspect it's a little bit of everything.
This morning, I wanted to test how long my patience could last. Fortunately, it lasted longer than Sphinn search. Unfortunately, the following was my result after waiting two minutes for a response.
Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 120 seconds exceeded in /var/www/html/sp/sphinn.com/libs/search.php on line 188
Folks - I think it's time to address the infrastructure problem at Sphinn. Please submit your complaint to management here. Enough voices and maybe we'll get some improvement.
Respectfully,
Sean

Pretty sure Danny/Michelle/Rob has recently said that this on the To Do list, but behind other more important items.
Yes, I recall Danny commenting on that about three months ago.
oh, oh, oh! i raise my hand to share my sphinn search grievance! why, oh why, does it show the oldest story first in the search results? if i'm searching for something, i don't want to see the stories from 200 days ago (or at least 99.9% of the time i wouldn't). i want to see the newest stories related to that search. please reverse the sort order of results. pretty please!
Everyone on sphinn should give Danny a break on sphinn site search. Isn't it just easier to use Google site:sphinn.com/...?
I'm guessing this won't even get 100 sphinns - a fraction of the folks who submit and vote every day. This is a "known bug" as Sean points out and i'm sure Danny has prioritized it as Matt notes.
@ kevin - no offense to Danny. Believe me.
I brought this subject up several months ago and considering that this a predominantly search industry related site, one would assume that it could taken care of pretty easily. It's a great annoyance, as is the general latency of the site. All of this can be cured in relatively quick fashion.
"predominantly search industry related site, one would assume that it could taken care of pretty easily"
Lol... see, being a search geek I kind of Google hack/site searches for everywhere I go... So, I would hope that many of us know some pretty sophisticated ways of mining data from a site. I rarely meet a site search component that I like... improvisation is part of the gig ;0)
..in truth, can't say I have used the site search here. I built a GCSE with my own trusted sites and google hack that to get what I want (Spinn inclusive)...
